Windlesham House School
Guncast Pool’s specialists designed and built this striking indoor swimming pool for Windlesham House School.Set in 65 acres of the South Downs in West Sussex and established in 1837, the school is one of the country’s leading co-educational preparatory schools. It offers world class day and boarding for school children aged from 4 to 13 years.
The Guncast team carried out the pool and filtration design, pipework fitting and installation, environmental control and more, all finished to the highest standards. This FINA regulation, 25-metre competition pool is packed with functionality and hidden features, such as starting blocks, turn boards, backstroke warning and false start indicators. This colourful pool with geometric surroundings is a brilliant addition to the school’s new sports centre and provides an enjoyable space for students to train. The pool tank was designed to FINA/ASA standards & regulations incorporating a facility for full competition electronic touch pad timing systems with automatic instant score board display.
The school’s primary aim in its brief was to gain a pool that used the absolute minimum of chemicals to achieve a comfortable, irritation free water and air quality.
The filtration and water treatment system incorporates a full UV system with fully automatic sodium hypochlorite residual disinfection and pH control combined with medium rate deep bed sand filtration. Pressure transducers and controls in the balance tank give real time level readings displayed on the control panel LCD display. Alarm levels and set points are also controlled for both the balance tank and backwash holding tanks.
Following many years working with Guncast on high spec quality pools Heatstar were chosen to supply the new pools environmental control systems. The units chosen were the XF EC 12000 Super for the pool hall and an XF EC 500 Super for the changing rooms.
These XF EC units offer a high efficiency, heat recovery ventilation solution.
Centred upon a high efficiency “Cross Flow” plate air-to-air heat recuperator, the XF system utilises fresh air introduction to provide natural dehumidification and utilises the recuperator to maximise heat extraction from the expelled room air.The XF utilises the latest “Blue-EC” ultra-efficient, intelligent, digital inverter fan technology and is fully compliant with the latest building control regulations for both commercial and residential applications.
The result is a striking and outstanding pool design which completely fulfils its brief.
